  If They Weren't a Cult Before.....

  i just wanted to officially change something on my viewpoint.

  i have thought about this for a few days.

  i used to think that while they were in some ways controlling, that jw's did not meet the criteria of a cult totally.

  It took me a while to admit they are a cult too, Jeff. For a time, I felt that either the definition of the word "Cult" has to be so vague that it would not only cover JWs, but also a bunch of more main-stream religions, or the word was so restrictive, that it didn't apply to JWs. But now I think it is a cult.

  Your points about their actions during the past year are note-worthy, but can you back this stuff up? I don't mean to criticize, but it'd be nice if I could point to certain magazine articles or Kingdom Ministries when discussing this stuff with others. I know the Question Box from the Sept 07 Km touches on some of this, but is there anything else, specifically regarding points number 3 and 4?

  the ones that made you cringe when you saw them listed on the km or watchtower?

  Song #1114 - God's Loyal Love (becuase it's the longest one in the book). The song that has the line "like bees that were molested, I will ever beat them off." And the one that says "We must act together as one, independence wisely we shun". And I would be remiss if I left off my wife's all-time least favorite: #134, "Carry on as Men". I never noticed how sexist the song was until my wife pointed it out. But I guess if I was a female, it would be weird to sing lines like "May we be courageous; carry on as men" and "Manly courage is a sure requirement of Jehovah's people, young and old".

  Shell69- Yeah, I'm trying to be environmentally friendly. If I think something has any value whatesoever, I bring it a local goodwill or save it for the following year's garage sale or put it on Craig's List. Cicatrix- Don't be so hard on yourself about burning them, at least it saved the garbage company from having to haul them. You probably would have burned something else anyways (newspaper, leaves, etc.), so at least they got put to some use.

  *Purple Triangles (VHS, never been opened, copyright 1991 by some book publishing company in NY)
  
  *NO BLOOD: Medicine Meets the Challenge (VHS, opened and watched once, copyright 1991, by some book publishing company in NY)
  
  and
  
  *The BIBLE: A Book of Fact and Prophecy, Volume I (VHS, opened and watched once, copyright 1992, by some book publishing company in NY)
  
  That last one is a rip-roaring, laugh a minute comedy by the same comedic force that brought you "Life-How Did it get here? By Evolution or by Creation" and other equally hilarious, long-titled farces.
  
  My question is...doe anyone want them? I feel bad adding them to a landfill, but I don't want to donate them to the library or a Goodwill, where some unsuspecting, gullible person might fall into their trap. Do any of you want them for research?
  
  I'll mail them anywhere in US/Canada at my expense (this will help me get rid of some spare boxes, too). Post here if you want them - and then PM me your address.

  i'm about to purchase the book the tinkerer's accomplice: how design emerges from life itself by j. scott turner.. .

  the description says that the author takes on the challenge of explaining how design in living organisms occurs in nature without resorting to the unfalsifiable concept of "god.

  " i thought it might be a good read and an answer, as it were, to the august 15 watchtower feature article "what does design in nature reveal?

  ryan sutter was a devoted jehovahs witness, baptized at age 15. over a decade later, his "entire belief system fell apart, largely due to talkorigins.org".

  sutter wrote to talkorigins, a famous post of the month entitled "youve changed my life.

  Yes, this was an awesome listen. Wish the infidel guy would have kept a little more quiet, he kept jumping to conclusions and trying to finish Ryan's sentences. Still, Ryan makes some good points about the religion.

  Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole.......big.....beautiful Hawaian music

  i got on a dean koontz kick and have recently finished the 15th book by him since january.

  in the one i just finished........he recommended the music by the late israel kamakawiwo'ole.

  he said that it was very soothing and put him in the writing mood.
